It’s September already!  Summer flew by!  You may have spent your summer with family and friends, traveled to intriguing venues, participated in hobbies, sold your home or caught up with personal appointments. Ready or not, Season 2017-18 is fast approaching and we are ready for your arrival!

Behind the scenes, we have been very busy too. Residents enjoyed more planned activities including: concerts, karaoke, potlucks, holiday cookouts, a drive-in movie and even a Winetasting with a Mystery Play.

Woodshop members are making improvements to the Clubhouse interior. Cabinets for video and audio equipment/supplies were installed. A storage area to provide much-needed space for chairs, tables, kitchen supplies & equipment is in progress. The biggest change is the extension of the kitchen providing serving areas to meet the growing needs of the Resort!  Curious about how it all looks?  Well, you have to wait, and as Alan would say, “you will be pleasantly surprised!” Completion is scheduled just in time for our season to begin.

Season 2017-18 begins October 1!  Activity planning and scheduling kept us busy this summer allowing us to start the season earlier. Your favorite entertainers and activities are coming back, plus many new activities and fun twists are added for your enjoyment. Day trips are scheduled beginning in December through March – but more on that later.

Every effort has been made to address your wishes and suggestions. Monthly calendars are already packed with activities. Williston Crossings is a “destination to remember” offering something for everyone to enjoy. When this season ends, we will have experienced “a season to remember.”

exclamation.jpgTIP:  This newsletter is packed with information on opportunities to participate in upcoming activities. Suggestions are given about items you may want to bring from home.  Items needing your attention have the red exclamation symbol. Please read carefully so you will come prepared and won’t be disappointed.

Those who enjoy venturing out of the Resort will want to check out this season’s day trips. Betty Young pulled out all the stops last season and this season is even better as she has lined up some of our favorites and added new trips.

We are off to a fast start with our first trip, December 13, when we will enjoy St. Augustine’s holiday “Night of Lights Trolley Tour” and sites of the city. To ensure a seat on the bus you must pre-register now!

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, December 13, 2017. This exciting day trip in a luxury motor coach to historical St. Augustine costs only $56.00 per person. Upon arrival in St. Augustine, you will experience a private 1 hour Historical Trolley Tour followed by time on your own to tour the city (includes off & on Day Trolley fare for your convenience). Then we will meet at the Visitors Center (time to be determined) for the Night of Lights tour on a private trolley to enjoy the beautiful Christmas lights. You will be treated to seasonal music, elk cider (yes, “elk” cider!) and cookies. At tour’s conclusion, we depart for Williston. Time of arrival back at the resort to be determined.

With Season 2017-18 beginning October 1, Bingo will be different!  Our Bingo system is now a state of the art computerized model scheduled for roll out Labor Day!  A big thank you goes to Jim Burnett as he agreed to handle the roll out and promises to have any bugs worked out before October 1!  The older bingo machine has found a new home!  We hope they enjoy it as much as we have!  Staff members Herb, Roxane and Bruce will be back.  A big thank you to Jim & Jay for running Bingo this summer and to Kim, Lou, Buddy & Barbara for helping in their absence!  They did a splendid job!

Also, Herb and Roxane return to the Clubhouse Saturday mornings doing what they do best.  Join us in welcoming them October 7.

Recurring activities (activities that repeat weekly, daily or monthly etc.) will resume as the activity leaders return to the Resort.   We will do our best to notify you as activities resume.  Our summer calendars showed all activities including the recurring activities. The October through April calendars will show special events and will not show recurring activities due to the large number.  Look for and refer to the new Recurring Activities Sheet which will be available in the Activity Center by mid-October.

Interested in becoming one?

Williston Crossings RV Resort announces a new group for amateur radio operators or those interested in becoming one. Hams are involved in emergency communications, amateur television, digital communication via ham radio and many other electronic forms of communications. The group will discuss these plus the newest modes of ham radio - digital voice and software defined radios.

Start date October 4. Time & place to be announced. Contact John McClun NQ3RP or Site 273.

exclamation.jpgTwo craft shows are planned this year. All participants must have valid season reservations at Williston Crossings. The first show is scheduled for December 8. By alerting everyone early, we should have good turnout with lots of Christmas gift ideas! Our popular spring show will be on Saturday, March 10.

Monday, November 27, decorating for our holiday festivities will begin! We are taking our holiday decorating contests to a new level and would like you to participate! Participants can compete for bigger prizes for Clubhouse tree decorations, golf cart decorations and RV or park model site decorations. Decorations may be judged on uniqueness, animation, elegance, most creative, etc. Details will be announced.

exclamation.jpgWe have a limited number of trees and decorations for you to use. Bring any decorations you would like. Help make our resort beautiful for the holiday season – the best it has ever been!

exclamation.jpgDo you have decorations or Christmas trees you no longer want? Williston Crossings Activities Committee is looking for donations of new or gently used decorations and trees. We also welcome other holiday decorations donations. Please bring donations with you when you return to the Resort. We will be most appreciative!

Organizers NoNo, Julie & Kathy have plans in the works for a Mardi Gras celebration on February 9th. It will start with a parade through the Park. Participate by decorating your golf carts, bikes, or wagons, or march or dance in the parade. There will be live music, dancing, lots of fun and plenty of beads. Zydeco music will be provided by Randy Smith. A Mardi Gras King and Queen will be crowned.

exclamation.jpgWe are announcing this early so you can bring anything from home, costumes, fedoras, masks and decorations for the parade. Anything goes! You may want to check out the web for ideas. Also, bring any music makers: tambourines, maracas, stump fiddles, washboards, spoons, bongos, etc. More details to follow, but for now keep your eyes open for anything you may be able to use.

tea_photo.jpgThe popular annual February Ladies Tea needs you. Some of you have attended or even helped with this event. Sharon Hamlin originated the tea eight years ago, the last two years a group headed by Lavonne Pickens did a splendid job. Lavonne will not be returning this year and has embarked on new adventures. We wish her well and will miss her.

If you are interested in organizing this event, we would like to hear from you. Contact Janet Clark at 517 930-1759.

The 2nd Annual Talent Show is planned for March 9. Put on your thinking cap and decide to participate in this entertaining event. Kermit the Frog said it best: “Just because you haven’t found your talent yet, doesn’t mean you don’t have one.” There are many talented residents in the resort and this is the time to share.

exclamation.jpgWho can forget last year with the Williston Cloggers, John Smith’s singing and of course, Liberace as presented by Audrey Boals – to name a few! Would you believe Audrey is at it again! She would like to present the fun-filled musical, Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs with your help. She needs people, voices, costumes, props, ideas. Please contact Audrey Boals in January 2018 and let’s have fun. You don’t want to miss this opportunity. Audrey is talented, fun loving and a real hoot to work with!
